Wills & Administration of Estates

Handling your future with dignity

At Ferris & Co. Solicitors, we offer a full range of private client legal services including Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA), and estate administration. We understand these matters can be deeply personal, and we always approach them with empathy, professionalism, and complete confidentiality. Every family situation is unique, and we tailor our advice to suit your individual needs.

A Will is a vital legal document that ensures your assets go to the people you choose. It can help minimise Inheritance Tax, reduce the risk of disputes, and give you peace of mind. Without a Will, your estate will fall under intestacy laws — which may not reflect your wishes. An Enduring Power of Attorney, meanwhile, allows you to appoint someone you trust to manage your affairs if you're no longer able to do so yourself. Setting this up early avoids delays and court intervention later, giving you control and protecting your interests.

We also handle the full administration of estates when a loved one passes away - whether or not there is a Will. From valuations and tax returns to applying for Grants of Probate or Administration, closing accounts, and distributing assets, we manage the process with care and efficiency. Our experienced team is here to support your family through every step, with clear guidance and compassionate service during what we know is a difficult time.

Get In Touch
Do you offer legal aid representation?

Yes. Everyone is entitled to legal aid for a police station or PACE interview. For criminal charges, eligibility depends on your income and the nature of the offence. Legal aid is generally available for a wide range of cases, including family, children’s and domestic proceedings, divorce, and ancillary relief matters. However, legal aid is not available for most driving offences.

How long will my conveyance take, and when will I have a completion date?

On average, a conveyance takes between 8 to 10 weeks. This can vary depending on issues that may arise, such as survey results, boundary queries, or title matters. We always aim to meet your preferred completion date, but please note this date only becomes legally binding once contracts have been signed by both parties.

Do I have grounds for divorce?

In Northern Ireland, there is only one legal ground for divorce — the irretrievable breakdown of the marriage. This must be proven by one of five facts: adultery, unreasonable behaviour, desertion for two years, two years’ separation with consent, or five years’ separation without consent.

What happens if I die without making a Will?

If you die without a Will, your estate will be distributed under the laws of intestacy. These rules determine who inherits your assets and may not reflect your personal wishes. Making a Will ensures your estate is passed on according to your preferences and can help avoid delays, disputes, and additional stress for your loved ones.

How do I arrange a consultation with one of your solicitors?

You can contact our office directly by phone or email to arrange a consultation. We offer appointments in person, by phone, or video call, depending on your preference and the nature of your legal matter.
